What is an embryo transfer like?

Embryo transfer is the procedure through which we place the embryos that are in the laboratory inside the uterus to achieve a pregnancy.

This process begins when the period arrives and we have made the decision that this month we will do it. We must have the tests requested by the doctors, which are generally preconceptions, up to date and we will do an ultrasound with the period to evaluate the ovaries and endometrium.

Before starting in most patients we can indicate the taking of oral contraceptives or we place an injection to prevent ovarian functioning, since having a larger follicle or a cyst prevents us from being able to perform the ENDOMETRIAL PREPARATION.

If we are ready we have two options, depending on each patient, in the first case we are going to stimulate a follicle of the ovary so that the estrogen produced by that follicle is the one that makes the endometrium grow in a controlled way. In the second case, we start taking oral estrogen to make it grow in an orderly manner.

When the endometrium is thick and with the characteristics we expect, we square the transfer with the progesterone produced by the ovary and progesterone that you must place intravaginally or subcutaneously depending on the case of each patient. We will give you all the indications at each stage of this process.

On the day of the transfer you must come with a full bladder, without perfume and aligned with the purpose of receiving our embryo in your uterus. In most cases you will have a talk with our embryology team where they will show photos of the embryo or embryos that we are going to transfer

Then we are going to go to the procedure room where we place a vaginal speculum to pass through the neck a catheter (it doesn’t hurt!) and through the catheter pass another thinner and softer one with the embryos, all this process followed by ultrasound, so you will be able to see the process you and the doctor all the time.

After placing the embryos in your uterus you must rest in the same place and after this time you can go to the bathroom and empty your bladder (which will be full!!) when you leave the procedure room we recommend you to be calm that day in body and spirit to achieve our goal.

From here on out it is called BETAWAIT, it is a time when you will have to take some medications that we will prescribe and wait for the pregnancy test. Just like you, the entire FERTIVIDA team will be crossing their fingers that your pregnancy test is positive.
