What is egg donation and what does it consist of?

Egg donation is an assisted reproductive technique in which a woman donates her eggs to help another person or couple have a baby. The process includes donor selection, hormonal stimulation to produce multiple eggs, extraction using an outpatient procedure, and laboratory fertilization before transferring the embryos to the recipient’s uterus.

Donating eggs is an altruistic and generous act that allows many people and couples to fulfill the dream of starting a family.

At Fertivida, donor candidates must meet certain specific requirements, which ensure both the health of the donor and the viability of the process:

  • Live in Bogotá or surrounding areas, to facilitate attendance at appointments and exams.
  • Be between 18 and 29 years old, optimal range for ovarian quality.
  • Be over 1.60 m tall.
  • Maintain a Body Mass Index within the “normal” range for optimal health.
  • Have knowledge of your family medical history.
  • Have time available, since it is a process that requires commitment to attend controls and treatments.
  • Be of Colombian nationality.

If you meet the requirements to be an egg donor at Fertivida, you can start a selection process that includes several stages:

  1. General assessment: It consists of an initial interview, gynecological check-up and hormonal analysis to evaluate reproductive health.
  2. Genetic studies: Genetic testing is done to identify possible hereditary conditions.
  3. Blood Tests: A general health evaluation to rule out infections or medical conditions.
  4. Psychological assessment: Ensures that the donor understands and is emotionally prepared for the process.

This process ensures that the donation is safe and meaningful for everyone.

* The amounts described here serve as a reference amount and may NOT represent the amount that Fertivida offers as compensation.

In Colombia, the amount of compensation for egg donation usually varies between clinics, but a remuneration is usually offered that compensates for the donor’s time and commitments.

This amount on average can range between 1,500,000 and 2 million Colombian pesos and will depend exclusively on the policies of each fertility center.

It is worth mentioning that thiscompensation is not a payment for the eggs themselves, but a reimbursement of expenses to cover the discomfort, travel and efforts involved in the process of the donor.

At Fertivida, the main focus is on the safety and well-being of the donor and those who will receive this help, so the selection process and compensation seek to respect the ethics and altruistic value of the act of donation.
